NYFW Beauty Report: Wild for Wang

15 February 2010

The Show: Alexander Wang

Where: Pier 94

The Scene: We’re in a massive hanger and there are loads of big names walking for Wang today…Aggy, Natasha P, Freya, Natalia, Anja R, Abbey. Backstage is tense with nervous excitement and tunes boom loudly as girls line up for the run through. Everyone backstage is milling around in groups, drinking coffee from boxes (exactly like the ones you get wine in?!) and Alexander is hanging out.  Hair extraordinaire Guido is really sad about Alexander McQueen.

Spotted: Aggy in a leopard print faux fur coat and sporting mannequin nails.

The Look: Wang’s girls are super-cool, early 90’s, grungy tomboys with low swept side partings, burgundy-lined eyes, and brushed up brows.  Forget lips and cheeks thank you very much; these girls don’t over-do it…

How-to Tips: Guido plaited hair at the nape of the neck into a kind of corn-row to remove thickness before blow drying Redken Force 23 hairspray into the roots to manage the low side-sweep.   For the perfect Wang eye do like Diane Kendal and apply Mac Cream Colour Base in Sepia, before blending the incredible MAC Greasepaint Stick in Brown right up to the brow.

Hero Product: We L.O.V.E.D the greige nails slicked with Butter London Varnish in ‘Yummy Mummy.’ Tres chic.

Secret Product Spot: The amazing Sultra Hairdryer-dries locks super fast and is ceramic and ionised inside for maximum hair protection.  (Note to self: Invest in one of these.)
