PFW: Louis Vuitton reviewed!

Louis Vuitton’s celeb-heavy front row featured Catherine Deneuve, Freida Pinto, Leighton Meester, Sophie Dahl (plus fiancé, Jamie Cullum), Katy Perry and Daisy Lowe, all looking elegant and sophisticated. Boy, were they in for a shock.

On first inspection, Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection, though undeniably cool, (and brilliantly styled; by Katie Grand) seemed to lack the sophistication of past seasons. We glanced nervously at the front row, wondering if it wasn’t a risky move to alienate the label’s core customers.

Of course, Vuitton has always had huge cachet with the hip-hop crowd too (and their MTV-watching fans), and this show was sure to appeal to them. This was a collection where ghetto-fabulous met back-to-the-90's: so we saw oversized back-packs, fluro details and LV-logoed denim; and then huge ‘fros, (under which the models were totally unrecognizable), which were definitely more 70's... go figure.

But under closer inspection, we needn't have feared for those sophisticated front row customers; buried in the mix were some precision-tailored jackets, and elegant cocktail dresses. Marc Jacobs has pulled it off again…
