PFW Show Report: Stella McCartney

A radiant Natalia Vodianova, wearing an oyster silk jacket with waterfall collar and cropped trousers, opened the Stella McCartney show this morning with her husband Justin Portman and kids watching from the front row (along with Stella’s husband Alasdhair, her dad Paul – looking very happy with his girlfriend Nancy Shevell, bezzy mate Gwyneth Paltrow and Princess Caroline of Monaco with daughter Charlotte Casiraghi) . The collection had three main pillars – classic ‘Stella’ pieces that her loyal customers keep coming back for each season: masculine jackets (this season worn with super-short shorts or cropped trousers); oversized shirts (worn long and loose as a kaftans, or with sassy shorts and belted); and great pants (cropped above the ankles with a drape-front detail). Then came the pieces that seemed to have been inspired by her mother Linda in her ’70s heyday; button-through denim skirts in both short or knee-length, an easy-to-wear denim sundress and mid-height cork wedges (yet another example of the fact mid-height heels are having a major comeback). Then Stella went girly – we’re talking the three Fs: frills (BIG frills), flounces and florals. Fabulous colours: shrimp, poppy, tangerine and her trademark cobalt. And sexy shapes – one-shoulder styles ruled, making us wish for summer all over again.
