PFW show report: party time at Sonia Rykiel

Last night, France’s grande dame of fashion, Sonia Rykiel, showed her spring/summer 2010 collection at her St Germain boutique. The Sonia show is always guaranteed to life the spirts of even the most fashed-out of fashionistas. As we arrived, there was evidence that Mme R would not disappoint – the catwalk was lit with giant glitterballs, the floor strewn with silver discs, and handsome waiters were handing out pink champagne to get everyone in the party mood.

As the lights dimmed and a disco soundtrack pumped out from the speakers, the well-oiled crowd went mad – a very rare occurrence on planet fashion, we can assure you – whooping and egging on the models who danced past, blowing kisses to the front row (all except for Freja Beha who remained stony-faced throughout; clearly too cool for school!)

The clothes were pure Sonia; a riot of colours from apple green to egg-yolk yellow via flamingo pink; signature colourful striped knits and knitted lurex aplenty. We loved the gold and black knitted jacket that came with four pockets and a belt, but were less keen on the knitted cycling shorts that were shown – we’ve seen a worrying number of cycling shorts over the past few weeks; here’s hoping it’s not a trend that’s going to catch on…
