The make-up and hair look has changed. They’ve done the run-through and the look just isn’t working. This may sound fairly tricky 30 minutes before the show starts, but when the make-up is white and painted into the hair, that causes just a teeny bit of stress. However, we managed to pin down the make-up and hair stylist for five minutes to find out the inspiration. Inge Grognard for MAC used White Paintstick on the forehead and blended it into the skin, graduated into just a pale lower half and set with Porcelain Skin Powder. Lips were paled down with Lip Erase in Dim and Pale: ‘It’s a Rick Owen’s women but different. With Rick Owens, women stay beautiful but are just a bit different with an accent of liner’. Eye liner (black/black chromaline and penultimate rapid black liner) was straight and open, not a classic flick, but extended out close to the hair line and accentuated underneath the eye.
Laurent for Bumble and Bumble wanted to open the face up to show the liner off. Bumble and Bumble Gelac was used, like glue, an inch, a bit like a halo, flattened around the hairline leaving a ridge which started the second texture of hair, super dry. 'This was actually an idea for last season but Rick thought it was more summer and suggested we keep it for S/S 10 and to my surprise he remembered and asked me to create it’, she says.
Simple and striking, just like the collection, the make-up and hair gelled to create a recognisable Rick Owens look.
