In a sweltering Milan (29 degrees – no fun when you have arrived with a suitcase full of boots and wool dresses, believe us), the Alberta Ferretti collection we saw yesterday were just the type of clothes we wished we were wearing. Mrs F did what she does best: dresses. Romantic, feminine and so so pretty. Inspired by Edwardian ladies who did The Grand Tour of Italy's cultural sights at the turn of the last century (think Helena Bonham-Carter in Room with a View), the dresses often fell to mid-calf (although the trend for super-short versions won out in the end) and skimmed the body, suggesting rather than flaunting the figure beneath. Ferretti is the queen of modern event wear and the women who turn to her to kit them out for summer weddings and parties will not be disapointed.
What we loved:
* Creamy linen brogues with patent toe caps worn with floaty mid-calf length dresses.
* The uber-flattering colours – from palest shell pink to crocus purple, worked best when the shades were worn doubled up in the form of two layers of chiffon.
* The intricate embroidery and embellishment, really made this collection sing.
