Backstage Beauty: Sporty futuristic at Iceberg

26 September 2009

Iceberg welcomed us backstage with Michael Jackson’s Beat It playing so loud, you could hardly hear anyone speak. With our feet tapping along to the MJ beat, we spoke to Val Garland (we love!) for MAC. ‘It’s a modern take on athletic chic for a sporty futuristic, unexpected, 3D girl’. Skin was polished by working the ‘skin up’ with massage and lymphatic drainage, ‘It’s a pre base to wake up the girl’s skin’ apparently. The main focus was on the lips with a citrus hue. Layered with MAC’s Primary Yellow and Landscape Green Chromaline and finished with Clear Lipglass before the girls walked out. Beautiful model Ala opened the show with her striking bleached brows (with the other girls having their brows taken down too with foundation). The skin was carefully highlighted diagonally on eyes, cheeks and temples (‘everything we used is the same cream base’) and no powder for a buffed and healthy finish. Eugene Souleiman for WELLA headed up hair using crimping underneath to build up body ‘but it’s ultra-straight on top with a little bit of crimp showing through. There’s a centre-parting and it’s flat and shiny on top. The hair is the only thing that moves as the clothes don’t; they’re so structured’. Val and Eugene, we are loving your work.
