LFW show report: Twenty8Twelve

After the sharp-shouldered tuxedo jackets and emerald Swarovski-encrusted finale dress at their debut show last season, we were expecting big things from the Miller sisters as we filed into the SW1 showspace last night alongside Alexa, Pixie, Peaches and Poppy. And after walking past a distinctly coiffed Anna Wintour on the front row (looks like she’s been forgiven for calling Sienna ‘toothy’, then) we took up our seats in anticipation of another beautifully tailored collection.

Oh, how wrong we were. The label has come on in leaps and bounds in the past few months, with the S/S girl picking up some serious attitude along the way. With Iggy Pop’s The Passenger blaring out of the speakers, the models strutted down the runway in mod-rocker patterned headbands, cut-off denim waistcoats and powder blue lurex-look separates. Inspired by the birth of rock’n’roll in the ’50s, pinstripe one-pieces were cut out front and back, silk floral jumpsuits oozed insouciant cool paired with flat black sandals, and a fierce leather biker jacket was thrown over a two-piece swimsuit with sheer black panelling at the hems. Though lacking in consistency compared to last season, this was a collection that could work with anything at anytime, with wearable separates thrown together without a care in the world as oversized boyfriend shirts were tied casually over cropped corsets and shorts. The message from the Miller sisters this time round seems to be one of sartorial rebellion so, come next summer, stick two fingers up to convention rock’n’roll style and wear whatever you want.
