LFW show report: Amen Erdem!

22 September 2009

On the last morning of LFW as everyone filed out of the Southbank centre, there wasn't a spirit amongst the crowd that hadn't been lifted. Erdem's S/S show was a flurry of colour, the beautiful prints encasing the body in clean, inviting and extremely wearable silhouettes. This doesn't mean the collection wasn't show-stopping, on the contrary. Trademark smudgy floral prints (this time) of primroses and pansies on gorgeous dresses and an easy-tailored playsuit glided down the catwalk to the sound of live glockenspiels. Followed by a delicate creamy beige lace shift dress and striking trench coat in the same colour. As the collection gained momentum the prints become appliquéd and detailed with sequins, and the colour palette grew more dramatic. Black lace overlaid on cornflower blue and fuchsia pink silk made for beautiful eveningwear and the final black and white print was the perfect ending to a gorgeously elegant show. These are clothes that require little else (although the round lense sunglasses that featured on some of looks were a welcome kooky touch), a collection that women want to wear now! Erdem is heading for the top.
