LFW report: Giles' jewels

22 September 2009

London Fashion Week just wouldn't be right without seeing Giles Deacon (the London favourite is showing in Paris for the first time this year after winning the ANDAM Award) so we were thrilled when he invited us to see his debut jewellery collection for his mainline at Somerset House, and Mr. Deacon didn't disappoint. From jewel and chain dripping statement necklaces to spider cocktail rings and link chains with padlock pendants there was a piece to keep every Giles girl happy. We were desperate to try on the fringe-edged cuffs and simple gold pendants of Giles' trademark big eyed creature, (much to the security guard's dismay). Once Giles had kindly sourced his friend a drink from behind the scenes we grabbed him for the low-down; "I wanted to create a jewellery collection that was really wearable, I've often designed jewellery for the catwalk but the show pieces are too heavy to be comfortably worn for a long time." The prices are very accessible too, you can pick up a piece of the action from £200! Rumour has it this very jewellery collection will be in the S/S show.....does that mean insects are on the cards? And how does the designer feel about showing Paris? "Excited!" Well so are we, see you there Giles!
