LFW show report: Julien MacDonald sparkles

20 September 2009

As we entered the Royal Horticultural Hall in South West London, it seemed apt that Julien MacDonald had dressed the room in real grass and gravel, decorated with angelic statues and a fountain centre piece. While we sat on park benches sipping champagne and nibbling sweet treats that were passed around a booming front row; Natalia Vodianova, Peaches Geldof (dressed in Christopher Kane for Topshop no less), a heavily pregnant Roisin Murphy (in fashion forward ruffles), shoe designer Charlotte Olympia with her mother Andrea Dellal and Grazia style crush Leigh Lezark. Oh, and let’s not forget the Olsen twins BFF Derek Blasberg too.

Once the room was heaving, upbeat music filled the huge space as Julien's clan of famous models began crunching over the gravel in patent multi buckle strap sandals, adding a fierce touch to his sheer billowing gowns and body con dresses. No surprises here from Julien; the collection was full of attitude, sparkle and sharp shoulders. Soft loose knit dresses made way for cut-out leggings and dresses - some mini, some maxi, plenty to keep the red carpet in frocks all summer long!
