LFW show report: Danielle Scutt

Kanye West might not have been in the front row at Danielle Scutt this season, but we hardly noticed as we ran in to take our seats at the show. Side-stepping the oil-soaked bread and bottles of longed-for chilled water on offer at the Topshop Space (well, ok, we might have picked up a glass of champagne or three on our way) we took our seats to see just what Danielle had up her sleeve this time. And were we in for some fun.

As the music came on (Beats International’s Jam Hot is a tuuuune!), all eyes were on the glittering fuchsia lipstick and foot high, Betty Rubble inspired hairdos. The shoulder-padded dresses that made their way down the runway were littered with eye-catching polka dots and heavy black graffiti, beneath sheets of sheer organza, and we could literally feel the breeze created by the swish of Scutt’s metallic leather skater skirts. Full skirted dresses were trimmed with pink cheesecloth while the harsh cut-out style up-top provided a tough girl contrast to the swathes of swishing fabric walking past us.Girly bloomers, lace shorts, and peachy layers of chiffon all added to the Alice in Wonderland-style vibe of the show, and with the flashes of acid brights and retro prints adorning mini-dresses galore, we’re pretty sure the music summed it all up at the start. Lifting the words right out of the 80’s Brit rappers’ mouths, Danielle Scutt says this is jam hot. And it is.
