Backstage beauty: Marc by Marc Jacobs' punky bad girl

16 September 2009

Another day, another Marc Jacobs extravaganza but this time around it was the turn of sister super label Marc by Marc Jacobs and what a juxtaposition to the main line collection on Monday night. Back at the NY State Armory, Marc’s make up and hair team created another distinctive Marc Jacobs ensemble. Guido for REDKEN and Dick Page for Shiseido created a look that was reminiscent of Marc’s Louis Vuitton hair bow made famous by Madonna at the Met Ball. Fuchsia pink and cobalt blue specifically made hair bows were carefully tied into a cute, on the side bow accompanied by rough, dry textured volumous hair. ‘There’s a little height on the crown’ Guido told us, created by back brushing after drying in REDKEN’s newest product Aerate 08.  Then the hair was loosely pulled back into a side parting and scrunched into a loose French twist and the finishing touch were the hair bows placed in that quirky Marc Jacobs way.

On the make up front, Dick Page was creating ‘a little punky, sharp and super colourful look’. The face was very simple and plain with no mascara or blush but a punch of colour on the lip, just like the hair bow’s impact. ‘I wanted the cupids bow to be a sharp cut V with a colourful lip.’ Page mixed Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Fuchsia with Make Up Forever’s eyeshadow in Neon Pink to make an impact ‘there’s a lot of information in the clothes so the make up is just a fun thing.’  We have two questions: when can we buy the hair bows and when will that neon striped jacket be hitting stores please?!
