Guest blogger: make-up carnage at Carolina Herrera

15 September 2009

MAC make-up artist – and guest blogger for Grazia Daily over Fashion Weeks – Neil Young is back with another look at what happens backstage at New York Fashion Week.

Did I actually sleep? I'm not convinced! Feels like I just closed and reopened my eyes! So I'm at Carolina Herrera and the girls are gorgeous, as are the clothes, and the make-up is polished to perfection! Diane Kendal has created a beautiful subtle smoky brown eye using Retrospeck eyeshadow all over the eye from lash to brow, and Brown Down into the crease and around the upper and lower lash lines. Bootblack liquid liner is finely applied to the roots of the upper lash line, defining the eye without appearing obvious, adding volume at the roots of the lashes. There are so many people backstage it's difficult to do the make-up as you are being filmed and papped every 30 seconds so that everyone gets what they need for their shots! Try doing ultra-thin eyeliner whilst being pushed from pillar to post – not an easy task! This show always attracts the high-profile girls and I've spotted Lily Donaldson and Natasha Poly having the high-profile treatment – three to four people working on hair, nails and make-up at the same time! To complete the look, Style blush was used to pop the apple of the cheeks and Twig lipstick was patted on to the lip to add dimension without looking like make-up! The perfect colour for a natural pout. Anyway, must dash – they are calling first looks and I have 35 sets of arms and legs to perfect and these girls are already cut and bruised. Oh the miracle of make-up!
