Jason Wu knows how to seduce the red carpet crowd. After all this is the man who dressed Mrs Obama for the Inauguration Ball, in a gown suitable for a blushing bride (albeit one who likes to party). But while there is little in his S/S ’10 collection that might be First Lady appropriate, there were loads of gorgeous bits for young girls with cameras to pose for. He stuck to a signature shape of belted and mini – with no hemline falling below the knee, but there was enough variation to keep the audience happy. Print, Swarovski stripes, marabou feathers and so much colour that the front row was blinded. Golden yellow, violet, orange, red and aqua bounced off the mirrored floor, which to be honest was bright enough as the show was set in a chinzy ballroom. But there was some wonderful day wear too. His peach tweed two-piece worked together but would be super-useful as separates, and we loved his interpretation of slouchy dressing and sportswear. This season did remind us a little of Luella, but that quirkiness is no bad thing at all, and welcome in the traditionally too-cool US market!
