We love Loewe

08 March 2009

You know that you have great friends when they travel to Paris for one night only to see your first catwalk collection. Giles Deacon and Hazel Robinson enjoyed tea and teeny sandwiches at the very civilised tables lining the Loewe catwalk. They were there to support Stuart Vevers, once of Mulberry, who is now Creative Director of Loewe. After two capsule collections and no shows, Stuart made up for it with three showings of his A/W '09 collection, running one after the other, with only half an hour inbetween. But we would have happily sat through the show each time. The collection was sleek, stealth and mature. Lots of leather, lots of suede, studding, punched holes, great fabric combinations and unusual detailing. For a first full collection it was signature Loewe, but with bags of Vevers' character and attitude. In fact regardless of it being his debut show, it was a triumph - sellable and sexy.
