Givenchy’s gothic cowboys

02 October 2008

The place: Carreau Du Temple - a cavernous (but suitably chic) old market building in the Marais district of Paris.

The people: The fash pack's cool set (this was one of Paris Fashion Week's hottest tickets after all) all wearing - and making even more desirable - Givenchy's A/W line. Natalia Vodianova got the multi-strand gold necklace, Milla Jovovich the leather trousers, Carine Roitfeld wore a cape straight off the catwalk and her daughter Julia just rocked her LBGD (that's little black Givenchy dress).

The clothes: Givenchy's creative director Ricardo Tisci moved his A/W '08 Goth fest on apace, making Cowboy Goth the hero of the S/S '09 collection. Rhinestone bootlace ties, pale denim chaps type jeans with leather patches (that fitted like a second skin) and over-the-knee cowboy boots were stand out pieces.  Not very cowboy or goth but still worth a mention for sheer fabulosity were the ultra sexy nude dresses with sheer cut-out panels which revealed canary yellow lace dresses beneath. So hot!

The verdict: A collection with bags of attitude. Givenchy under Ricardo Tisci goes from strength to strength.

The extra detail: ‘She was sweet - she has an ironic way of seeing life and people. She had a perfect body and was very sure of herself.' - Ricardo Tisci talking in this week's Grazia about the 100 sketches in two days he did for Madonna's current tour. Pick up an issue for the full low-down on Tisci's career, Madge and the Givenchy aesthetic.
