The Michael Kors summer collection – that has got to mean hunks in trunks! Michael’s glossy models rarely come down the runway unaccompanied and the guys are usually rather minimally clad, which creates a certain frisson in the audience. The audience itself is always an entertainment. The lunching ladies are all there: Trumps, Duponts, Lauders, Rockefellers. All the big American household names are front row for Michael. This season they were joined by Michael Douglas, sans CZJ, and looking quite a bit smaller than he looks on screen.
As for the clothes: for next summer, there is an unexpectedly clinical edge to the glossy Kors look. Minimalist white shifts with zipper details (NY is gearing up for a zippy summer) and strong shoulders and dresses cut in something called techno taffeta that looked so sharp you might get a paper cut if you get too close. Then the mood softened up with delicate mohair knits and crushed linens. And the ubiquitous draped jersey appeared in sexy cocktail dresses. Note: pea and pistachio greens are THE summer colours in New York. Michael Kors worked them, on the soft side in crinkled cashmere sweaters and, on the severe side, with slashed and zippered shifts. When it comes down to it Michael has two options for summer 2010: severe or kitten soft. Take your pick.
