Donna Karan goes back to basics

  

Donna Karan went back to basics and delivered a collection of key capsule pieces for A/W '09. Your winter wardrobe could begin and end here and you'd only need to own four items, but creating luxurious pieces that tick every box for the urban working woman without looking like a uniform was, after all, how she launched her career. This season, Donna was on peerless New York fashion form, and adding to the wow factor was show pianist Eric Lewis, who was so engrossed in his music that he didn't even realise the show was over: the models went off stage, the audience checked their watches and Donna took her bow at his side as he finished with a flourish...

WHAT WE LOVED...

1) The draped jersey dresses.

2) The chunky metallic necklaces.

3) The double-face wool trench coats.

4) The belted mannish jackets with sharp shoulders and peg trousers.

5) The neat heads and ballerina knots.
