Show report: Michael Kors living the America dream

default

Against a sound track of the Beach Boys, Michael Kors models look like an advertisement for the American dream. It was all about slick sportswear (American for separates) in primary bright colours. If there is one buzz word for what you will want to wear next season it's ‘soft'. Someone marketing crinkly cotton this season is coining it. Jackets looking like they have been rescued from the tumble dryer; billowy skirts and big cowl-necked tunics in scarlet or cobalt blue were accessorized with glossy sun visors. The big soft shoulders and roomy proportions had a definite 80's feel. But Michael Kors's audience is packed full of beautiful bodies belonging to the likes of NY socialistas Aerin Lauder and Olivia Chantecaille. For them it had to be all about the body conscious colour blocked dresses inspired by neoprene surfer suits and the slinky jersey floor length, cap sleeved evening dresses that swept the show to a close. You don't have to have a PHD to unravel Michael Kors references. His shows are all high beam smiles and ‘have a nice day attitude'. Which in the middle of this schedule is like a breath of fresh air.
