Karl Lagerfeld's A/W ‘09 collection for Fendi (where does he find the time? Surely he's the hardest working man in fashion...), was seriously grown-up, seriously luxurious and we seriously wanted most of it! The house may have gone back to its roots with a huge number of their trademark furs, but even for non-fur wearers there was plenty to choose from. The show opened with a dramatic, glamorous double-layer coat – high-necked Crombie underneath with a sharp-shouldered cloak, split up each side, attached at the shoulders. Lagerfeld worked with a mostly muted palette of black, charcoal, cream and tan, but used bursts of claret red – a colour that is shaping up to be A/W's hottest hue – as punctuation: the beautiful red velvet dresses had a-reach-out-and-touch quality. And, as always at Fendi, the accessories (designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi) were a major element of the show. Last season's Peekaboo bag was shrunk and given a shoulder strap, and the rigid-shaped colour-block clutches are sure to have a waiting list this morning.
WHAT WE LOVED:
The cape coats (long and short).
The velvet dresses – especially the loose caramel one.
The wide (half-turban) headbands.
The grey mini 'Peekaboo' bag with shoulder strap.
The red snood dress under the sharp-shouldered cream coat.
