VIDEO: Burberry's beautifully British collection

There have been quite a few moments this past week in Milan when we've been wondering where on earth the relevance is in some of these catwalk clothes right now. I mean, how many jewelled fur jackets and diamanté snoods does a girl really need in these crazy times? Not so at Burberry Prorsum, where Christopher Bailey brought some much needed British common sense to the proceedings, proposing a load of chill beating coats over pretty silk dresses, thick ribbed tights and chunky walking boots. Alternatives for those not up for a floaty dress in November included full skirted kilts that tactfully hugged the hips before kicking off in a pleated flare. And chintzy full skirted evening dresses under trench coats which will look charming in country houses or cocktail bars.

THINGS WE LOVED

The music: opening with Adele and closing with Peter Gabriel.

The armfuls of chain bracelets.

The wool cowls as an alternative to the scarf.

Pleat skirted trench.

Floaty silk dresses under heavy coats.

The dark tartan check.

  • How beautiful. I want it all. Like now. But especially those snood/scarf things.
