D&G celebrated the world of the theatre and opera in their A/W ‘09 show. The catwalk was covered with rich red flock wallpaper and posters from the Teatro la Fenice. The hair was dripping with tasselled keys, as if to open the Royal Box. The show retraced the most iconic operas with Maria Callas roles in particular: her face graced printed T-shirts and the venue was the Metropol, where she recorded Bellinis Norma. As for the collection? That fitted with the old-school glamour theme too. Brocades, velvets and upholstery some with glitters and stones, ruled the catwalk. Denim embroidered with passamenterie details, tulle, grosgrain ribbons followed. It was spectacular.
LOOKS WE LOVED:
Gorgeous bustier dresses.
Tapestry chiffon blouses and jewel brooches with skin-tight leggings.
The cotton Maria Callas T-shirts contrasting with luxe fabrics.
The trompe l'oeil effect prints.
The finale: chiffon gowns with bodices printed with original opera bills
