Louise Goldin's Futuristic Superheroes

As the winner of the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award at the British Fashion Awards in 2008, knitwear goddess Louise Goldin had just a touch of pressure on her for her A/W '09 show. We had seen a preview of the Blade Runner hair on the models, so had a suspicion that the clothes would follow suit. And they did. Leather panelling, structured dresses with architectural folds and angles, and an emphasis on the waist. There was a even a hint at superhero costumes (Batman was mentioned in the press release) - although with the sparkling Swarovski crystal tights and knitwear, Louise's superheroes would be the best dressed, if not entirely practically dressed for fighting crime (those heels would make chasing after baddies pretty difficult). There was a lot of attention to detail - down to the crystal beads creating a seam down the back of the glitter tights - which is what we expect to see from Louise these days. This collection may have signified a move away from her knitwear heavy collections, which is no bad thing, but with knit skills like hers, let's hope she doesn't drop them altogether.

2 Black knitted cocoon cardigan with visible darted details
