Christopher Kane: He's in the Bauhaus gang!

23 February 2009

Watch Christopher Kane talk through his collection above.

Another stellar show from Christopher Kane. It all went off like clockwork, apart from Kanye West's late arrival. The first half of the collection was luxe low-key elegance – the watch words of the season. These were clothes for a woman with bags of taste and a love of all things gorgeous. Shearling biker jackets over skinny pants summed it up perfectly. Then came the dresses; a series of semi-transparent nude dresses shaped by corsetry banding – each band covered in velvet and applied to the bodices in graphic black lines. The overall effect was elegant and modern. Just right for now. 'I was creating graphics from a fat marker pen, I was looking at barcodes and blowing them up to get shapes. Also we looked at Russian Constructivism for the shapes. We wanted to do something muted, everyone won't want to be running around in bright colours this autumn,' he said after the show. Not after they see this one, anyway!

Christopher Kane Moments:
* The girls all looked freshly scrubbed, with barely there make-up and simple, tied-it-back-themselves hair.
* Before the show fashion icon Anna Piaggi chatted with Kate Moss's ex (and Dazed & Confused magazine editor) Jefferson Hack on the front row. After the show Anna was besieged by adoring fashion students all desperate to touch her multi-coloured sleeve!
* Kanye West and his shaved headed girlfriend arrived so late they only sat down as the models were taking their finale trip down the catwalk. Apparently Mr West was not happy that his FROW seat had been given to someone else and gave the PRs a really hard time. Don't be late next time!
* The audience were on the edge of their seats willing the models not to fall in the high and rather wobbly shoes.
