The starriest front row of LFW (so far)….

It's not  often you get to witness a national treasure of Dame Shirley Bassey's stature  cheek by jowl with hip popstar types (Roisin Murphy), rock-god offspring (Leah  Wood and Lizzy & Georgia-May Jagger), ex-supermodels (Erin O'Connor) and  even the odd reality TV star (Victoria Hervey). Yet, at yesterday's Jaeger S/S  '09 show, this seemingly bizarre group were front row and centre. They were  there to witness Jaeger's second catwalk show since its transformation from  the go-to-store-for-home-counties-ladies-of-a-certain-age to global fashion  brand began. We sat behind Erin and the Jagger girls who were all lapping up  the 1940s-inspired 1970s silhouettes (do keep up - the ‘70s were all about  channelling the ‘40s dontcha know). Think billowing chiffon maxidresses  harnessed with nipped waist/short sleeve/puff shoulder jackets, sherbet  coloured trouser suits with wrap-style jackets (their cropped peg trousers  kept the whole thing from slipping into retro pastiche) and loose minty green  silk all-in-ones.

Utterly wearable and totally chic, the  seemingly strange mix of front rowers suddenly all made sense: Jaeger is a  label that delivers fabulous and wearable fashion across the board, whether  you are a dewy teenage ingénue (Georgia-May) or glamorous 70-something like  Dame Shirley. Not something you can say for many of today's youth-obsessed  fashion labels.  Standout  pieces included white broderie anglaise balloon pants (or posh jogging pants  by another name), which were shown with chunky - yet sexy - sandals, a pair of  7/8th pistachio green paisley pants (bohemian chic at its very best) and tiny  "feathered" effect bolero jackets worn with floor-sweeping dresses. No wonder  the front-row ladies were in raptures.
