Forget frown lines or under-eye bags – the latest targets in the war against ageing are hands. Hollywood doctors (where else?) are kick-starting the trend by offering hand Botox and ‘handacials’ (hand facials) to their smooth-faced but wrinkly-of-hand patients. And now the trend’s heading here...

LA-based Harold Lancer – leading skin doctor to stars including Victoria Beckham – and Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Leif Rogers are said to be offering chemical peels, filler and laser treatments to plump and smooth hands and reduce ageing brown spots, plus the varicose vein-busting treatment sclerotherapy to reduce prominent veins on the backs of hands.

Demi Moore and Kris Jenner are said to be fans of the new ‘Hollywood hand job’, a treatment that’s increasingly popular with women who want to avoid the dreaded ‘Madonna hands’. This is a term used in LA to describe women whose hands give away their real age – the singer’s wrinkled hands are famously at odds with her age-defying porcelain skin.

Harley Street aesthetic doctor Dr David Jack, whose new five-minute hand treatment includes Ellansé filler to plump out hands, told Grazia, ‘Increasingly I’m getting requests for anti-ageing hand treatments, plus other areas that tend to show our age more quickly, like the neck, jowls and décolletage area.

‘People often forget to apply sunscreen to the backs of hands, even though they’re constantly exposed to the sun. Women often tell me their hands look at least 10 years older than their face, so I developed a filler treatment designed specifically for this delicate area. It plumps up lost volume and decreases visibility of tendons and veins. It can also be used with other techniques, like mesotherapy, to reduce pigmentation of the skin, and laser resurfacing.’

Or you could just remember to apply some hand cream every now and then?
