Remember when the thing to do on the red carpet was lift up your tee and show off your Calvins? While we've never been advocates of VPL, this season it's all about having your undies on show. The CK waistband is back, as Calvin Klein Underwear's latest Instagram campaign is a nod to the Marky Mark days.
Stars and super bloggers are posting pictures on Instagram of them wearing 'My Calvins' - Miranda Kerr, Leandra Medine, Jourdan Dunn, Rita Ora and Daisy Lowe have gone all Brooke Shields circa 1981 and flashed us their pants. Kendall Jenner also got in the act, sharing an Instagram snap of herself kneeling on a sunlounger, sporting a white 'Calvin Klein'-emblazoned crop-top with a pair of matching pants visible above the waistline of her low-rise jeans. 'Morning!' she posted. 'Just going to hang out in #MyCalvins alllll day! ... thank you @calvinklein for my little gifts.'
Miranda Kerr did her best Kate Moss, lying with unbottoned jeans and a tied up t shirt with her white Calvins riding high. While The Man Repeller styles hers with boyfriends and an unbuttoned cargo shirt. To go alongside the campaign, Calvin Klein is calling us to flash our own Calvins. Gulp. But it looks like Miranda's 3.3 million fans are listening. The Calvin waistband was the label to flash back in the 80s and 90s, as baggy jeans were nothing without a side of CK. We thought that the baggy jeans and boxers look would stay in the 90s - especially since the look got a big 'ew, as if!' from Cher Horowitz in Clueless. But it seems like Calvin Klein Underwear is on a mission to lower our jeans waistbands.
Now let's look beyond Justin Bieber's take on this look. The statement waistband has been slowly returning, as Rihanna designed her own line of slogan underwear with River Island which she flashed on her Instagram. Our style mantra here at Grazia HQ is 'what would Kate Moss do?' And no one did this look quite like Kate Moss, who was 90s perfection in a cropped knit, Mom jeans and layered necklaces in their ad campaign.
