Cate Blanchett Style - Best Dresses & Outfits

Cate Blanchett may have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, an Oscar and two BAFTAS, but she's also wins in the style stakes. She's had countless leading roles, including starring in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Lord of the Rings and Notes on a Scandal, so she's never too far away from the red carpet in knock-out couture.

Cate knows what suits her and is fiercely loyal to her favourite luxury labels, such as Alexander McQueen, Givenchy and Armani Prive. You're most likely to catch her in an embellished flowing gown, like the silver Armani Prive number she wore to the Oscars back in 2007. She is certainly elegant but Cate is also fearless and she takes plenty of fashion risks, as she regularly experiments with directional structures and fashion forward fabrics. To the Oscars in 2011 she got some harsh criticism for her Valentino lilac chiffon gown with contrasting acid yellow beading - but we LOVED it.

She always looks ah-mazing in a Givenchy gown, such as the winter white Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Spring Summer 2013 gown she wore to the premiere of The Hobbit in London. We imagine she got used to wearing a statement gown or two on set of her blockbuster film Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

Some of her adventurous red carpet looks (like the shiny shiny Armani Prive suit she wore to the Tony Awards in 2010) have landed her on worst dressed lists but Cate doesn't care. She's said to the Huffington Post: "If you're worried about that stuff, you can tell. I mean I've had some doozies. They don't always work.... But who are you dressing for? You can't always dress for Us Weekly magazine. (Being named worst-dressed) I think is a badge of honour."

The Australian actress is also known for her porcelain skin and flawless makeup, and she is the global ambassador of SK-II and was joined by Kate Bosworth in October who became SK-II's new skincare ambassador.
