1920s Fashion: How To Dress Like Carey Mulligan in The Great Gatsby & Marion Cotillard in Midnight In Paris...

From the big screen to the small screen to the catwalk, we are just a little bit in love with the 1920s right now — and we’re not the only ones. With Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby, starring the luscious Leonardo DiCaprio and oh-so-cute Carey Mulligan, set for release in December, '20s fashion is only set to get hotter.

Images from the set have had us drooling over fringed dresses, headbands and pearls (take a scroll through our gallery above to see our inspirations), but it’s not the only movie-of-the-moment to be set in this most of decadent eras. An as-yet-untitled James Gray project (rumoured to be called Low Life) is currently in production starring Marion Cotillard as Sonya Cybulski, an innocent immigrant woman who is tricked into a life of burlesque. Ooh.

But fear not, fashion friends — for a quick dose of '20s glamour right now, look no further than Woody Allen’s award-winning film Midnight In Paris which took home the gong for Original Screenplay at the Oscars this Sunday. Once again, Ms Cotillard was the natural choice as Parisian muse, Adriana. And luckily for us, the film has just been released on DVD. Hurrah! Having watched it over and over, we got to wondering about how to recreate such a fabulous look.

So we called in uber-stylist Hanna from Asos Mint Vintage's Marketplace who showed us her key pieces for nailing the trend — some of which were actual vintage 1920s garments! Ever willing to be the Grazia guinea pig, Editorial Assistant Jo Oliver jumped at the chance to play dress-up, trying on a selection of pieces in the glamorous setting of… our beauty cupboard! And here are the results:

Of course, flapper dresses are an essential part of 1920s style and we love this red sparkly number with black fringing (available to buy here for just £48). Hanna styled up the dress with a vintage 1920s pendant threaded through a black satin ribbon to make a fabulous necklace. And keeping with the sparkly theme, how gorgeous is this smoky grey sequin gown?

Headwear is another look synonymous with the 1920s and Hanna paired this black feathered headband with an original vintage sheer top (so delicate, we were scared we might put our hands through it!) over a simple black slip. And it wouldn't be a '20s-themed ensemble without a healthy smattering of pearls. But our personal favourite is this gorgeous art deco-inspired headpiece, which you could easily wear with your own LBD to create a period feel.

So if you're feeling the vibe and want to get a piece of the vintage action, head over to the Asos Mint Vintage Marketplace where you can get in quick and order that party dress pronto! Race you to the tills...
