Trend Tuesday: Co-Wash Your Way To Healthy Hair

For some of us, the idea of going one or two days without washing our hair is unheard of, just the thought of having greasy, matted hair enough is to make our toes curl. However, times are changing and there’s a new kind of washing technique that’s taken the beauty world by storm: co-washing.

Co-washing (short for conditioning wash) is an alternative way of way of washing one’s hair without shampoo, which can be very drying when used too often. Cleansing conditioners allow you to wash your hair half the amount as before. They nourish the hair and scalp as well as lifting dirt and grime, for an all-round gentler washing experience.

How is that possible? You might ask. Cleanser conditioners use natural extracts like Aloe Vera and olive oil to attract grease and impurities, as we all know oil attracts oil. The benefits of using a cleansing conditioner are endless. For one, your colour lasts longer which means saving the pennies (always a positive). Your hair will look naturally shiny and healthy every day as the product really gets down to the root of your hair problems (pun intended) and conditions the hair cuticle rather than covering it up with a load of silicones, which merely conceal the damage.

With the heat wave in full swing and many of us jetting off to even sunnier shores for a bit of R&R, now is a crucial time to protect our hair from the damaging sun rays, drying salt water and overly chlorinated pools. We’re rounded up the best co-washes out there, tried and tested by the beauty team, to help give you a nudge in the right direction…
