Oh sure there's an app for everything, but does an app for sharing your leftover food mean we've gone one step too far? Launching later this month, the LeftoverSwap app does exactly this. Simply snap a pic of your leftover Chinese, share it on the app and wait for your neighbours to claim it for themselves. Although the claimed benefits such as limiting food waste and reducing obesity are positive, it does seem slightly weird...
Here, instead, are some food apps you do actually need in your life.
1. The Perfect Egg Timer

A boiled egg may seem like a simple dish to make, however the perfect boiled egg is often an impossible task. The Perfect Egg Timer App times your egg-making to prevent rubbery or super soft eggs, and allows you to customise the settings to egg diameter, temperature and yolk preference. Making perfection as simple as the dish itself!
Having been voted a top fitness and health app, this app makes healthy eating and shopping much easier. Simply use the app to scan a product's bar code, then the ingredients and nutritional information will appear on your screen. The app not only grades the ‘healthiness’ of the product but also alerts you to any items that contain high-fructose, corn syrup, harmful additives, trans fats or other toxic ingredients before suggesting healthier alternatives.
3. Levi Roots – Sunshine Food
Exotic Caribbean food isn’t in most people's daily repetoire, but this app would definitely makes us want to try! The app contains 60 Caribbean recipes, which you can adjust to your individual needs by selecting the number of people you are cooking for, making multiple dishes at once, timing it all and putting together a shopping list. The app even plays reggae music to you during the process giving a true Caribbean feel.
4. Steak Master

How you like your steak cooked is often a very personal matter, and as meat comes in all different shapes and sizes it’s often hard to cook to taste. This app allows you to cook your perfect steak by choosing the end result from a selection of pictures and adding in the thickness of your meat using an on screen ruler - resulting in a perfectly cooked piece of meat.
In this temperamental weather, this app allows you to throw a bbq together quickly to make the most of the short lived sun. You can check the weather, search local butchers, find parks where barbequing is permitted and also check out different cooking ideas and tips. Then the ‘cooking calculator’ prevents any burning from occurring, setting you up for a perfect summery day!
