Hubbard and Bell

Step into the Soho House Group's Hoxton Holborn Hotel and you'll feel like you've just landed in post-Girls New York. The open plan lobby is more Williamsburg than Holborn - a perfect spot for wannabe Lena Dunhams to work on with their e-books over an arnold palmer.

Tucked at the back of the lobby you'll find the hotel's main restaurant, Hubbard and Bell. From the mustard leather booths to the beef patty melts, it's like getting the L train to Brooklyn. It has a relaxed diner feel with long wooden tables, exposed white-wash brick walls and waitresses in denim shirts. Simple and stylish, but unpretentious.

We advise you start things off with one of the best gin cocktails in London. Don't go here without sipping one of their 'sodas' (we're not talking about Coca Cola) - we recommend the Hendricks, St Germain, cucumber and elderflower.

The starters are mostly 'things on toast' - from ricotta, fig, honey and seasalt to rainbow trout, rillette, sour cream and dill - served on charming floral side plates. Nigella tweeted that the oxtail on toast is her favourite dish on any London menu right now.

The menu is like a straight-talking New Yorker - meats are listed under 'pig,' 'cow' and 'bird.' Like any good grill, you'll be torn between the lobster or the filet steak; burger or crab sandwich. Whatever you go for, you have to make room for the parmesan-sprinkled truffle fries (see above for photographic evidence).

The dessert menu is packed with All-American classics. We're talking s'mores, key lime pie, peanut butter and jelly ice cream, banana split and coconut cream pie.

This might be the restaurant of the moment, but something tells us it's going to stay in Grazia's good books for quite some time...
