Skate And Snack At Skate Kings Cross

From July 12th Kings Cross will hold host to this summer's hottest new pop-up venue, Skate Kings Cross.

Not only will you be able to roller skate your way merrily about the specially designed rink, there's also a bar and restaurant serving delicious eats from guest chefs including Gizzi Erskine, Yum Bun, Chef Jocky and Street Kitchen. There's also DJ's every night to get the party properly started.

The Burger Battle Is On As Shake Shack And Five Guys Open In The Same Weekend

In perhaps the most epic foodie war to hit our fair shores in recent times, two of America's finest burger chains open their doors in Covent Garden this weekend.

[a href="http://www.fiveguys.co.uk/">Five Guys[/a], originally of Virginia, and [a target="_blank" href="http://www.shakeshack.com/location/london-covent-garden/">Shake Shack[/a], hailing from New York, both have a number of celebrity fans such as Katie Holmes, Olivia Munn, Drew Barrymore, Kim Kardashian and, yep, even President Obama, who's been pictured dropping into a Five Guys for a cheeseburger (his toppings included jalepenos, lettuce and tomato since you ask.)

Which one's best? Guess we'll just have to go try them out for ourselves...

Pastry Chef At Le Meurice Hotel Makes Cookie Of The Month - Here's A Recipe You Can Try

New pastry chef Cebric Grolet at Le Meurice hotel in Paris is going to be releasing recipes monthly for his new Cookie of the Month campaign. Here's July's; the Just For US cookie.

Ingredients


400g (4 cups/14oz) plain flour
6g (1.20 tsp/0.2 oz) table salt
4g (1 tsp) bicarbonate of soda
200g (7oz) softened butter
150g (12 1/2 tbs /5.30oz) caster sugar
200g (16 tbs/7oz) brown sugar
2 small eggs (approx. 35g/1.23oz each)
3g (0.90 tsp) vanilla extract
340g (12oz) chocolate dragées (sugar-coated chocolate pieces - red and blue)
750g (26.5oz) pate a glacer
250g (8.90 oz) dark couverture chocolate
125g (1/2 cup/ 4.50oz) grape seed oil


Method


1. Mix the butter, both sugars, vanilla extract and salt together. Stir in the eggs. Add the sieved flour and bicarbonate of soda mix into the bowl and finally add the dragées.
2. Roll into 45g/1.5oz balls and space out evenly onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake in the oven at 180°c /350°F/gas mark 4 for 10 minutes.
3. Once baked, take the cookies off the hot tray and leave to cool on a wire rack.
4. Melt the dipping and coating chocolate, add the oil then mix. Coat half of each cookie and sprinkle with the chocolate dragées.

Rock Lobsta To Open At Mahiki

From next week Shoreditch pop-up Rock Lobsta will find itself permanantly 'popped-up' in London's Mahiki.

On the menu - amongst other things - are delicious wood grilled lobsters with garlic butter or smoked chilli sauce, the 'Rock Lobsta roll' and the Mahiki Burger complete with bacon jam and pineapple. Yum!

It's open from the 8th July so swing by and have a bite (or three).

Kallo's Coronation Chicken On Rice Cake Recipe Is A Picnic Must - Here's The Recipe

Ingredients

25g mayonnaise
25g crème fraîche
30g mango chutney
½ a tsp curry powder
½ a tsp lime zest
2 tbsp fresh lime juice
1/4 tsp salt
250g skinless, boneless, chicken breast fillets, cooked and diced
Handful fresh rocket
1 tbsp flaked almonds (optional)
Kallo Cracked Black Pepper & Sea Salt rice cakes

Method


Mix together the mayonnaise, crème fraîche, mango chutney, curry powder, lime zest, lime juice and salt in a large bowl.

Add the diced chicken and toss with the mixture until well coated.

Cover and chill until serving.

Layer your Kallo Cracked Black Pepper & Sea Salt rice cakes with the rocket, then top with a generous dollop of the Coronation Chicken. 

Top with the flaked almonds if desired.

1 whole fresh passion fruit
60ml fresh mango juice
60ml Jax Coco
50ml Soda water or sparkling mineral water

Method


Build all the ingredients in a tall glass

Actress Turned Chef Lisa Faulkner Makes Recipes For The Better With BRITA Campaign, Here's One For Smokey Broccoli Salad

Ingredients


1kg sprouting broccoli
(tenderstem broccoli can
also be used)
2 red onions, finely sliced
2 garlic cloves, finely sliced
1 fresh red chilli
100g smoked pancetta
lardons
200g dried puy lentils
1 litre chicken stock made
with BRITA filtered water
3 bay leaves
25g butter
Olive oil
Salt & pepper

Method

Soak lentils overnight in BRITA filtered water, drain, put in a pan and cover with the chicken stock and bay leaves. Bring
to the boil and simmer for 45 minutes or until tender. Take off the heat and leave the lentils in the stock. Meanwhile
cook the broccoli in boiling BRITA water for 5 minutes and drain. Melt the butter in a frying pan, add the pancetta and
cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring continuously to get an even colour. Once golden, add the onion, garlic and chilli and stir
for a further 2 minutes. Drain the lentils and add to a large mixing bowl with the broccoli and pancetta mix. Stir in the
olive oil, season to taste and then serve as a lovely alternative side dish.
