Backstage Beauty At New York Fashion Week: 5 Things We Loved

We can’t deny that the arctic temperatures in NYC have been a shock to our fragile British systems since arriving in the big smoke on Friday – it seems that -18 temperatures mean that thermals and cashmere socks are set to a backstage beauty editor staple this week. But we digress…Allow us to introduce our five best bits from yesterday’s travels backstage.

**Ode to the Sun **

The designers may well be showing their autumn/winter collections here in NYC, but backstage at Herve Leger the beauty team was dreaming of warmer times. Face painter Val Garland explained that these girls were perfectly sun kissed from a weekend in Santa Fe. Cute or what?

** Model Makeovers at Misha Nonoo**

At NYC fave Misha Nonoo, Tressemme stylist Ryan Trygstad set models to work by asking them to do their own hair in an experiment to prove that runway hair really can be replicated at home. And the result? Deep centre parts and tousled swishy ponytails inspired by this 90s Peter Lindburgh visual. 'Its not an exact science he told us, but actually these girls are really good. I think it's all the hours spent having their hair done on shoots.'

New Product Alert

Makeup artists Tom Pecheux and Val Garland raved about the MAC Autumn Winter Trends Palette that they were busy trialling backstage at Herve Leger and Altuzarra yesterday. Both used the earthy brown 'Calypso' you can see on the top right to dress model eyelids. Isn't it lovely?

**Rocking out at Wang **

Alexander Wang's girls were downtown rock and rollers who were into their heavy metal. Cue oiled tresses that hung over grey sunken eyes. 'It's been fun,' Guido Palau told us backstage. 'I gave some of the girls makeovers, dyed the hair of five models really dark and cut bangs on others.' We'd probably do anything for a Guido haircut too.

**Couture Coiffure **

'Today we wanted the architectural element of the collection to be reflected in the hair we did today and our idea evolved into these androgynous twists that joined one another in a low slung ponytail using TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Sculpting Spray Gel and TRESemme Get Sleek Creation Hairspray' explained Orlando Pita.' We'll take the feather tattoo too.
