There was a certain belle-laide appeal to the Acne girls who stormed the runway at the Pompidou Centre in Paris this evening. Certainly, these were not clothes for shrinking violets. Instead, attitude was to be seen in spade and here are the 5 things we loved...

1. Mum waistlines

We’re talking ultra high-rise trousers here so only really recommended for the long and lean, particularly when of the pale and knitted variety. A word of warning. Though the absence of muffin tops is unquestionably a blessing, actual mums might do well to steer clear.

2. Sock boots

The sock/shoe hybrid is THE new thing! (Jason Llyod Evans)

Ladies, they’re everywhere next season and here came cropped to just above the ankle, in myriad shades of leather and with a chunky, sculptural metallic heel in an equally vibrant palette.

3. Tweedy coats

Also emerging as a major trend for autumn, here they were moulded, with dropped, rounded shoulder, reversed of seam and blanket stitched. Think soft armour.

4. Patch pockets

Patching it up! (Jason Llyod Evans)

Another feature of the forthcoming season as seen here finishing everything from leather to masculine wools and denim. They are most fashionable oversized (very oversized) and in at least some of them were tasseled. Jazzy.

5. Edie Campbell

No, the blue-blooded model wasn’t in the show, sadly. Instead, she sat front row with (also blue-blooded) Talullah Harlech, vaping away like a woman possessed. A beautiful woman possessed which is entirely of the moment (see Masion Martin Margiela).
