Leather has long been a trend on the catwalks but this season it has had some major updates – most significantly there’s now lashings of patent leather and some clever colour blocking going on. Either way most of the new all-weather trends lead to a lady luxe look.
Whether you prefer the more feminine shapes or the rather suggestive dominatrix look the designers and the high street have a style to suit. Brands like Loewe and Valentino have introduced butter soft shift dresses and fitted coats whereas Chloe and Proenza Schouler have used these high fashion hides for a slouchier laid back look.
Unsurprisingly Lady Gaga is all over this trend, seen stepping out in a Calvin Klein Collection high shine green leather coat leaving her New York apartment. Despite her wacky style she’s showing us the easiest way to wear it – on its own as a statement piece.
Paper London has a fab teal patent leather mac should you want to channel Gaga’s look, but there are plenty of other options that will fast forward you into the new season. Our favourite AW13 picks are Marni’s khaki leather rucksack and Carven’s heavy leather jacket. For more purse friendly purchases check out high street stores such as Whistles (great for slouchy leather pants), Topshop (for the perfect leather pencil skirt) and Zara (great for leather detail tops)for a piece of gothic glamour.
What’s best is that any leather piece can be the perfect transitional fabric taking you from the final part of this summer into winter. So channel you inner rock chick and flick through our top 50 leather buys…
