The Writing Was On The Wall At Alexander Wang and Marc by Marc Jacobs (Catwalking)
Fashion Month is still in full swing, but despite there being a lot of style miles still to cover our attentions are already turning towards what will be the most coveted trends and pieces for Spring/Summer 2014. Step forward slogan tees, sweatshirts, bomber jackets and everything 1990s. That’s right you eager fashionistas, the trend is taking off for another season.
It all started again at the Alexander Wang runway. Straight off the back of Georgia May Jagger, via Aila Wang and onto Rihanna, the ‘Parental Advisory’ sweats from Alexander Wang are already making considerable noise. We are just going to put this out there: Alexander Wang isn’t going to be the only designer driving down the well-worn path of 1990s flashback fashions.
With 'It' buys of this season including the Bambi sweater from Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, and the Celine logo t-shirts, amongst other label-centric wears, it seems business savvy designers are jumping on the wagon! Marc Jacobs is the savviest of them all, so of course he wasn’t going to miss a trick. Whilst his collection for Marc By Marc Jacobs mostly centred on radio wave prints, the designer threw a varsity jacket emblazoned with his initials into the mix. We might as well join the waiting list now. Anything easily associated with a brand proves again to be a safe investment.
Statement Sweats Across London Fashion Week. From left: SISTER By Sibling, Holly Fulton and Fydor Golan (Catwalking)
Within our fair capital the trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Slogan sweats were seen at SISTER By Sibling today. Inspired by 1950s American Tupperware parties, the NewGen award winning brand took their love for knitwear through to the lighter summer sweater, with the very first look revolving around a sweater with the slogan ‘Lead Sister’. Holly Fullton also dipped her toe in the font-fuelled pond and showcased a rather girly take on the statement sweater. Her ‘77’ top was given the feminine floral touch and even Fyodor Golan showcased a ‘FG’ jumper amongst his 1990s rave inspired wears. However he missed the opportunity for an ‘OM-FG’ moment!
Like all good Brownies its best to be prepared, so get yourself on the hunt for anything slogan and of the knit variety now. Tell your friends people, 'It' Knits are here to stay.
