When it’s sunny but not scorchio, what is a girl to wear? It’s time to end our wintry wardrobe hibernation and move into the light, but we all too aware that our fine British climate doesn’t exactly make for a smooth transition… The formula making usually comes down to two things: shoes and how much leg to bear. It may not be quite time for sandals, but a sandal with a sock, we’ll consider. So in order to avoid any further fashion mishaps, we’re looking to some expert people for guidance…
Our leading A-list lady right now is Karolina Kurkova. She’s been pounding the streets of New York in an array of mid-season wonderment: just the right black ankle boots with the perfect-length mini skirts and dresses (i.e. a max of 3 inches about the knee) or top choice trophy jacket to outfit-lift a simple pair of black skinny jeans. Her leopard and polka-dot blazer styled with boxfresh white sneakers is the right kind of mix of smart and casual.
Brit icon Alexa Chung can always be trusted to nail an in-between look and she’s done so twice recently. First with her chunky knit layered over a little leather skirt worn with ankle boots (and her fave tortoiseshell Karen Walker sunnies et take-out coffee) and then again with a mini denim dress worn under a lightweight army jacket. The Chungster always brings a bit of feminine to her ensembles, no matter how cheeky and boyish they may seem: see her red Delvaux bag and ladylike ballet pumps as a perfect example.
SARAH JESSICA PARKER:
Then there’s SJP. Sarah Jessica Parker can do some funny daily fashion things (see her recent long-sleeve moment) but this lady knows how to wear the right pair of jeans for any occasion and at this current time her denim fetish has turned to pale washes. It’s a good way to stay covered up but nodding to spring. We like her Scandi combo of a bright, patterned knit with pastel jeans and those trusty Swedish Hasbeen clog-sandals.
