The 10 Hot Ways To Wear A Suit This Season

13 June 2014 by

You might have noticed that recently stars have come over all Annie Hall, ditching floor-sweepers for sleek tailoring on the red carpet. But a tuxedo doesn't have to come with a top hat and cravate a la Marlene Dietrich, as proved by the likes of Solange Knowles and Cara Delevingne. So which suit tribe do you belong in? We have rounded up the 10 hot ways stars are getting suited, from Angelina's dishevelled tailoring to Alexa Chung's normcore spin. For even more suit-spiration click through the gallery above...

1. Think pink like Solange...

Cederic Charlier blazer, £695, trousers, £275, DKNY blazer, £410, shorts, £185

Give masculine tailoring a girly spin like Solange Knowles who recently wore a hot fuscia trouser suit. We can imagine her rocking the DKNY pepto bismol short suit above. A pink pantsuit is perfect for wednesdays in the boardroom, right?

2. Do an Emma Stone and get checked...

The exact look: Saint Laurent wool blazer, £1.960, and trousers, £630, Raybans, £125,

Copy Emma's look: Hobbs trousers, Whistles shoes, £95, Cos shirt, £55, Topshop lipstick, £8

While promoting the latest Spiderman flick Emma Stone wowed in a check Saint Laurent number, which she styled with Louboutins and Ray Bans. If you're willing to splash the cash you can buy her exact look over on Net A Porter. For those without the budget for a Saint Laurent original, Hobbs do a great check pair of trews. Top it off with red lipstick for extra sass!

3. The luxe tux: Button up your shirt like Emma Watson...

Burberry, £150, Zara, £29.99, Jil Sander, £290, Mango, £19.99

Emma Watson rocked the luxe tux earlier this year in New York, when she wore a Saint Laurent tux on The Late Show With David Letterman. To look as sleek as Ems wear a crisp white shirt buttoned all the way to the top. Oh and red lipstick is important too.

4. Blue is the warmest colour like Lea Seydoux...

Hobbs jacket, £125, Hobbs trousers, £75, Cos scuba blazer, £115, By Malene Birger, £215

At this year's Cannes Film Festival Lea Seydoux matched the azure seas of the Riviera, in a blue-double breasted Prada suit. To nail the Riviera look think pale blue and relaxed tailoring.

5. Wear all white everything Cara-style...

Reiss jacket and trousers, £120, Maya Magal ear cuff, £40, Topshop nail varnish in Petrol, £5

Cara Delevingne is the champion of the tux, always choosing a trouser suit instead of a frothy gown. Our all-time favourite Cara D suit look is the white Burberry one she wore with nothing underneath. Just don't go anywhere near the red vino.

6. Play it cool like Angelina...

Burberry bow tie, £95, The Kooples Tuxedo jacket and trousers and Saint Laurent pumps, £370

Angelina Jolie was hands down the best dressed at this year's BAFTAs in her Saint Laurent tuxedo, which matched perfectly with Brad's tux. Ange kept it casual with an unbuttoned sheer blouse and unfastened bow tie, with her hair swept to one side.

7. Add a trainer to make it normcore like Alexa...

Whistles blazer, £95, Whistles cropped trousers, £75, New Balance trainers £59.99, Equipment shirt £290

We know, we know you hate the word normcore Alexa, but that really is the best way to describe you suit-styling. At New York Fashion Week the Chung wore a navy suit with a white patterned shirt (buttoned up all the way, natch), with a pair of New Balance trainers.

8. Do the summer suit like Olivia Palermo...

Topshop Jacket and skirt, £90, Jacket

We still love Olivia Palermo's pink short suit and Converses combo she wore last summer. Get the look with the Zara floral number and lilac Topshop skirt suit. Add a pastel slip on to give her look an SS14 update.

9. Add a statement hat like Rita Ora

Marni visor, £140, Maison Michel, £315, Larisa Hadijo cat ear visor, £188

10. Add some leather to the mix like Daisy Lowe

Topshop leather-look leggings, £32, Harrods of London pencil skirt, £325, Alexander Wang shorts, £855

Summer doesn't have to mean pink and floral suits, as this week Daisy Lowe wore a Saint Laurent suit with leather trousers. Kate Moss and Anna Dello Russo are big fans of leather tailoring. If you want to get the look, we heart the Harrods of London pencil skirt above.
