5 Ways To Channel Anna Dello Russo's Fashion Week Style, The Wearable Way

We heart the Dello Russo – she shifts from high-gloss Italianate glamour-puss to a nasty gal street chick in beanies, leather and suped-up sportswear. She always adds at least a dash of bonkers to ramp up the fun at fashion weeks. Although often not terribly practical for every day life and maybe a bit too much for the office, we can certainly learn a lot from Anna’s looks. There are many wearable ways to summon the fashion queen into our own wardrobes, here are our top 5 style-translations:

Multiply Your Mini-Bags

Anna is a fan of piling up her handbags. We like to think that one holds a lipstick, one her phone and one her gum. But we also think it’s a fun and workable look – preferable to carting around a huge bag/black hole of all of your belongings. Need to bring a new lippie out with you? Give it its own colour-clashing clutch and layer it atop the other. Cross-body bags are the hands free way to add instant cool to the most ladylike of outfits.

Rock An Out-there Hat, In A Laid Back Way...

ADLR is good at hats – the more they clash with an utterly bonkers outfit the better. A good way for us mere mortals to embrace novelty headgear like this though, is to wear it with a pared-down look. Loose layers of luxurious wools and cashmeres or a good quality grey-jersey will balance out a nutty hat oh-so chicly.

Focus On Faux Fur

Coloured furs are everywhere at the shows and of course, Anna loves them too. As you can see a bright coat is a quick to heat-up your cutest summer dress. Shrimps coats are a perfect way to tap into the trend. Fling it on top of your most boring outfit to give it some jazz if you’re not feeling quite as bold as Anna.

Toughen-up With Leather

Anna loves a bit of an ‘80s quilted leather and gold chain combo. Her leather levels fluctuate wildly – one day she might go whole-hog biker from head to toe the next she’ll channel ‘90s grunge, teaming biker boots with a light floral dress a la Saint Laurent. Leather with metal hardware is a sure-fire way to add interest to any outfit. But remember, a touch of tough-girl goes a long way – use it sparingly and you’ll enjoy the extra kick it lends to the simplest and girliest of looks.

Embrace A Colour Palette

Or just pink. But either way – Anna piles it on. Flying one colour flag is a very stylish trick – the key is to mix hues, fabrics and textures though. Don’t try to colour-match; one because it’s often impossible and two because it can look too precious. If you want to do this look with ease – the key is in the mix. Or make like Anna here and wear with super casual jeans and flats. She does reign it in sometimes.
