From Alternative LBDS To Revised Retro Glamour, Alexa Always Toys With The Red Carpet Formula (Getty)
Alexa Chung is the style icon who's spawned a thousand imitators. Since landing the gig of presenting T4's Popworld back in 2006 there's barely been a week when the fashion queen hasn't topped a best-dressed list (or three). In the latest issue of Grazia, our Big Fashion Issue in fact, we speak to Alexa about turning 30, work insecurities and how strange it is to see someone steal her style. Unless you're Miranda Kerr where the pavement is your catwalk, the red carpet is THE place to show-off your fashion prowess if one wants to establish themselves as a formidable fashion icon. Over the years, away from the T4 couch, Alexa Chung has established herself as exactly that by swaggering down many a red carpet.
The fashion formula is never the same for Alexa, whilst she is a woman with distinct style she always toys with the traditional carpet uniform. Indeed even the ‘if nothing else fails I will go for an LBD’ rule goes out of the window with Miss Chung. Take the Met Ball this year where Alexa opted for a black sheer panelled dress from Erdem or the Longchamp London Fashion Week soiree when she was a vision in vinyl, wearing a Jonathan Saunders black dress.

However, if we were to trace a trend, Alexa loves dresses with a vintage vibe. For the Grammy Awards this year she wore a full skirted, printed dress from Valentino which had a fifties feel, and a 1960s inspired dress also seems to be her go-to with an ankle strap shoe thrown into the mix.
Accessorising in an understated way is also key to Alexa’s style success on the red carpet. The jewellery is always minimal and this allows her to make more of a statement, take for instance her Carven look for the GQ Awards earlier this year. Looking pretty in pleated pink, Alexa accessorised the outfit with a Chanel No.5 perfume clutch bag. Indeed when the go-to ankle strap shoe is not the flavour of the day Alexa will opt for something a little more fun, including some feline footwear in the form of Charlotte Olympia cat pumps or some Nicholas Kirkwood ankle boots to mix in some masculinity with her more feminine dresses.
Tapping Into Tailoring On The Red Carpet (Getty)
Always willing to embrace her inner tom boy, Alexa is regularly seen tapping into tailoring. Just last month at the 30th Annual Fashion Group International Night of Stars, Alexa wore a Christopher Kane Spring/Summer 2014 asymmetric suit, accessorised with encrusted broaches. For a relaxed version of red carpet dressing Alexa will also look to tailoring, and has even been known to rock a pinafore jumpsuit.
