Style Hunter Meets Jewellery Designer Leila Kashanipour

20 February 2013 by

Rita Ora, Olivia Palermo and Florence Welch are all super-fans of LeiVanKash’s jewellery designs. If you don't know her yet, here's the skinny: American-born Persian Leila Kashanipour studied at London’s Central St Martins, trained under jewellery masters like Stephen Webster and has had her own line for two years now. We can’t get enough of her delicate but edgy pieces (the skulls are a perennial favourite), but we’re just as keen on the rest of her brilliant wardrobe, too. No wonder she’s been street-snapped out and about in London so many times… We caught up with Leila at her West London base to chat fash.

Style Hunter: How do you think your friends would describe your style?
Leila Kashanipour: My friends always tell me how much my style is present in my jewellery collection... They can see my Persian roots with the stones I use, like Lapis, Turquoise and Agate. The collection is a mix of boho chic with the Totems, edgy rock with the Skullmania, minimalistic cool with Damocles, girly florals with Flora and conservative glamour with Persepolis chandelier rings... my personal style is as the same mix as my jewellery!

Style Hunter: Do you choose your jewellery to work around an outfit, or the other way round with jewellery first?
Leila Kashanipour: I guess I go both ways. I would always buy clothes that I know I will wear for years, no matter how in fashion they are... If it doesn’t suit me I will not budge just for the sake of it... It's the same way I design LeiVanKash, I create pieces that complement my personal style and slip into my look easily. I think the key in designing and branding in general is to stay true to yourself and identity.

Style Hunter: Where are your favourite places to shop? And who do you shop with?
Leila Kashanipour: I love shopping on my own, at my own pace and rhythm. My husband sometimes comes with me on the weekends but that lasts around 30 minutes… which would already be way too long for him! In London it would have to be Harvey Nichols. I shop online at (where LeiVanKash is stocked). In Paris I’ll head to Colette and the entire Rue Saint Honore as well as Saint Germain... Opening Ceremony, Kirna Zabet and Barney's are my top shopping spots in New York.

Style Hunter: What’s on your wish-list for Spring Summer 2013?
Leila Kashanipour: A hologram metallic mini PS11 Proenza Schouler and the entire shoe collection by Saint Laurent (if only!).
