Having made it into its third year, London Collections Men now features over 130 designers showcasing their new collections for AW14, and as a mark of its growing success the outfits on the streets are now as closely watched as those on the catwalks for menswear trends. This year we saw a lot of accessories, sharp tailoring and cool sportswear, and as is usual it veered from the sublime and tasteful to the ridiculously over the top.
A big trend on the streets this year was for accessories, from sleek leather clutches to oversized tote style man bags, as well as the more traditional detailing of umbrellas, hats and scarves, used to finish off and perfect an outfit. Hats tended towards the Fedora side of things, with scarves seen in an array of styles, from patterned silks to chunky scholastic knits.
The most wearable outfit trend this year, in relation the crazy combinations seen on the style bloggers (think MC Hammer silhouettes, oversized print shirts, leggings, pajamas, crowns), was of course the tailoring. There was lot’s of cheque, slim cut, paired with a roll neck sweaters and a nice pair of shoes (not trainers).
The other wearable trend, and more casual, was for sportswear, vintage style Adidas, cropped bomber and Harrington jackets teamed with rolled up jeans and buttoned up shirts.
