Couture Fashion Week’s main event may take place on the revered runways of Paris, but there’s plenty of style action to be absorbed on the rues and avenues outside each show. Naturally, the dress code states smart, smart, smart. You couldn’t insult the fine work of the couturiers with trackie bums here, but it’s not all ballgowns and mink as you may think. With a winter chill nipping at the court-shoe-clad toes of the FROW’s most fancy, there’s been an intriguing compromise occurring between sensible and super-chic. We’re talking crazy-glam chubby coats worn with pretty sundresses layered up with tights or over-the-knee boots replacing the warmth of a good piece of outerwear.

And there are the new season trends, too. Humble denim has reached haute status and a flurry of fondant colours have flown in thanks to Caroline Issa, Alexandra Golovanoff and Susie Lau of Style Bubble. Satin Cinderella shoes feature heavily – and surprisingly - as part of the working wardrobe here, as does a statement hat. ADR is the first to be seen in Saint Laurent’s instantly recognisable lip print dress from spring/summer 2014, while many couldn’t resist the charms of Chanel’s timeless handbags.
As well as brave and bare-footed sandal moments a-plenty, one lady in particular has blazed her own inimitable trail this week and that’s a pregnant Elena Perminova. The Russianista has bumped her bump up to an impressively well-dressed level – employing the use of cape-coats, luxe trapeze tops and clever empire-lined dresses from the divine likes of Valentino, Chanel and Giambattista Valli.
