Thakoon

Thakoon's Fashion Evolution

With feminine, ladylike yet modern separates like ribbon tie jackets and taffeta skirts and his signature printed dresses, Thakoon’s designs tend to attract the more conservative but discerning end of high end clientele – among them Anna Wintour and Michele Obama, who wore a Thakoon dress the evening when husband Barack was presented with the Democratic nomination for president in 2008.

Originally from Chiang Rai Province in Thailand, Thakoon Panchigul first moved to the United States with his family when he was 11. After studying business at Boston University he worked as a fashion journalist in New York, and became more and more interested in the design process, eventually to go and re-train at Parsons School of Design. He moved into womenswear, showing his first collection in New York in September 2004. His patronage by Anna Wintour of US Vogue has seen him well placed in a design role at GAP and seen him appear in the 2009 film The September Issue. He has also designed a range for US budget clothing store Target.
