Meadham Kirchhoff's Fashion Evolution
From ballet dancers to a demented Seventies disco-goers, this enigmatic duo have become well known not just for their luxury take on rebellious teenage fashion and more than a little fanboy worship at the alter of Courtney Love - but as the producers of the most extravagant and exciting catwalk shows in the English capital!
Rough edged, clashing and inspired by the dodgiest elements of popular culture, it’s not hard to believe that English Edward Meadham and French born Benjamin Kirchhoff base themselves in the grungy district of London’s East End or that they love grunge and think of rock music as more of an inpsiration than the fashion world itself. They bring everything from rainbow wigs to glitter explosions to fashion week, and for that alone their shows are always must-sees. Other recent touches have included parodies of grungey pastel toys or Grotbag-style facepaint and tinsel wigs. NOT for the faint-hearted, and, it has to be said, for every fashionista who celebrates their outsider status and genius for grumpy interviews and disdain for the fashion establishment there are others who just 'don't get it'. (!)
The design duo graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2002, where they bonded over a shared hatred of the other students. They originally began their partnership designing menswear and launched their womenswear collection, Meadham Kirchhoff, as part of Fashion East in February 2006. Their woman is uncompromising, nonchalantly elegant, intelligent and rebellious. They have slowly built an extremly devoted hard core of fans and clients and are stocked in boutiques from London and Paries to Korea and New York.
