Amanda Wakeley's Fashion Evolution
Amanda Wakeley Spring Summer 2012 show
Beautifully elegant gowns, liquid silk drapery and the most desirable wedding dresses down the generations are the staples of the Amanda Wakeley label. Amanda launched her company in 1990 after designing for other brands in New York by way of her apprenticeship – otherwise she is self-taught. The timeless, polished simplicity of the dresses which generally eschew radical trends in favour of focusing on flattering the body has made her designs popular A-listers such as Angelina Jolie and a certain Kate Middleton...
In the last few years Amanda Wakeley’s business has changed hands several times, which has meant the future of the brand seemed uncertain at times. In April 2009 an announcement was made that Wakeley and her business partners had bought back the label from the restructuring firm Arvoco in a deal worth almost £1m. This returned control of a flagship store on London’s Fulham Road and concessions in Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols to the designer.
