Zooey Deschanel - Best Dresses & Outfits

Zooey Deschanel's Fashion Evolution

Despite being a Grammy and Golden Globe nominee with nearly fifteen years of acting under her vintage belt you’d be forgiven for thinking that Zooey Deschanel was an, erm, New Girl on the scene. The kooky indie actress star has managed to stay fairly under the radar; that is until 2012 saw the premiere of hit US TV comedy series New Girl with Zooey starring as the quirky and hilarious Jessica Day who moves in with three equally quirky and hilarious guys following a nasty breakup.

So with our full attention captured, all eyes are now firmly focused on Zooey's off-screen wardrobe. Described by the woman herself as 'whimsical and feminine' Zooey's signature style eers frimly on the side of retro. Queue sugary pink hues, strapless prom dresses and cutesy pearl necklaces. And in a season when the mood is all about a pastel colour palette, delicate lace and lady-like silhouettes this is no bad thing.

Zooey’s Bambi-like long dark lashes and trademark brunette ‘bangs’ have an adorable Minnie Mouse vibe about them and despite being in her early thirties she certainly knows how to work her girlish charms. The actress-turned-singer has been perfecting flirty frockery since her school days when she refused to wear trousers, favouring 'party dresses all the time with patent-leather shoes!' Her love of round-toe pumps hasn’t waned either with recent favourites including Miu Miu’s glitter beauties (which she snapped up in both gold and black) as well as Christian Louboutin’s leg-lengthening nude patent shoes.

What’s intriguing about ZD is that she openly describes premieres and parties as her 'least favourite part of the job' yet she appears totally at ease in red carpet pieces from the incredible beaded Prada gown she wore to the 2012 Golden Globes to the one-shoulder Alice + Olivia frock at the FOX all-star party. La Deschanel isn’t afraid of making an entrance either, case-in-point the 2011 Emmy Awards when she took to the stage in an incredible bubble-gum pink Monique Lhuillier gown. Accessorised with a Brigitte Bardot style 'do and Van Cleef & Arpels jewels, she was the epitome of a Walt Disney cartoon princess.

She may not be pushing fashion boundaries or setting new trends, but at a time when hitting style headlines requires the provocative skills of Lady Gaga, Zooey D’s wardrobe is like a trip to the seaside...oodles of fun and a very welcome break!
