Georgia's sketches for her River Island Design Forum collection
Grazia have long championed promising London designer, Georgia Hardinge and now, we’re giving ourselves a congratulatory pat on the back as she’s the centre of attention at River Island as the third designer to participate River Island’s Design Forum initiative: Georgia has created a 14 piece capsule collection for Spring/Summer 2013.
Georgia’s signature designs take inspirations from architectural style, combining forms taken from sculpture with the contours of the female silhouette, virtually works of art in themselves. You can see our edit of the brilliant (and very keenly priced) collection by scrolling through the gallery below. In business for only three years, Georgia has already dressed the likes of Beyonce, Florence Welch, Lady Gaga, Jessie J and Nicole Sherzinger, and pulled off memorable collections at London Fashion Week's Vauxhall Fashion Scout.
Accessories from the new range by Georgia Hardinge for River Island Design Forum
We caught up with lovely Georgia at River Island HQ and had a very interesting little chat with her.
Grazia Daily: How did you feel when you got the call from River Island? Was a High Street collaboration always on your . . .
Georgia Hardinge: My business plan?
Grazia Daily: Yes. Your fashion career to-do list
Georgia Hardinge: Yes of course! I just never thought it would happen so quickly. It’s amazing to me that I’ve got a range in River Island. It’s been so well done too, I’m really happy with the collection and with the lovely fabrics they’ve brought to it. And accessories! Brilliant shoes and bags – both of which are the first time for me. So is the film, which was really important to me to make. So its good news all round.

Grazia Daily: How did the collaboration come about?
Georgia Hardinge: River Island have done this Design Forum range before and then, when they were deciding who to approach this season, they spoke to the BFC, who recommended me. Then when I got the call I was thrilled and hugely excited.
Grazia Daily: It’s very close to your mainline, in terms of silhouette and print isn’t it?
Georgia Hardinge: Yes, it’s worked so well. And also, I think very good for a young, River Island customer as well. Someone who wants something to wear for a night out, but is also clued up about fashion and perhaps not able to buy high end stuff yet. So a younger customer but still definitely someone who has that desire to experiment with fashion.

Grazia Daily: Well quite. Tell us what else you’ve been up to recently
Georgia Hardinge: I never really stop running around! My AW13 collection for London Fashion Week, designing Girl’s Aloud tour wardrobe, which I adored doing. In one way it’s completely different from my own label but its really fun, you get that glamour of the pop world and it’s a good showcase for me, whose name people might not necessarily know. I've also working with other musicians, I’ve got a new muse coming up who’s name I’m not supposed to tell people and also [retro disco diva and opera singer] Sarah Brightman!
Grazia Daily: She’s a disco legend! Our readers will have to Google her song, I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trouper. What do you do outside of work?
Georgia Hardinge: Not much really! I’m always working. I know – I’ve recently been to Belgium, on a tour of places in WW1, because I’m really interested in history. And for research for inspiration for my collections I like to look at fine art and architecture. At the moment I’m so into Swiss surrealist painter and sculptor, H.R. Giger who worked on the film Alien, and the quite disturbing but brilliant work of artist Joel Peter Witkin.
Grazia Daily: Wow. Anything else you like doing?
Georgia Hardinge: I love books and the would love to have some time to read one. Which I don’t. I do tend to make time for Grazia though – it’s my favourite magazine!
Grazia Daily: That’s very sweet of you to say Georgia!
